MioOcean Phase 2 working groups underway

The MioOcean Phase 2 working groups are now meeting monthly to develop the next set of project outputs. Two groups are focusing on key questions related to Miocene climate: (1) multi-proxy comparisons and trend analysis and (2) global mean surface temperature (GMST) estimates and Earth’s climate sensitivity. Both working groups are using the MioOcean database to bring together Miocene proxy records and investigate large-scale climate trends, proxy reconstructions, and the mechanisms driving Miocene climate variability. This fall, the two Phase 2 groups will come together to share results and knowledge from their respective efforts. These discussions will help bring the analyses together, identify key areas of agreement and uncertainty, and guide the final stages of the Phase 2 work before the groups move toward paper writing.
